Mission: The Mystery Puddle — Level 4
Akuuu left her glass of water outside on a hot day. When she came back, the glass was half empty.
Her brother said: “Someone drank it!”
Her sister said: “The water just… disappeared into the air!”
👉 Who is right? Where did the water actually go?
Think: Can water really disappear? Or does it just change into something you can’t see?
✏️ Draw what you think happened to the water:
- 💧 Evaporation: Liquid water heats up and turns into water vapor (gas) — it rises into the air
- ☁️ Condensation: Water vapor cools down and turns back into liquid — this makes clouds
- 🔄 Water never disappears — it just changes state: liquid → gas → liquid
Akuuu sees drops of water on the outside of her cold juice can on a humid day.
Her friend says: “The can is leaking!”
👉 Is the can really leaking? What is actually happening? Explain using evaporation and condensation.

👉 Which shirt dries faster? Explain using what you know about evaporation.
A child says: “When water evaporates, it is destroyed forever. That’s why we need to save water — once it’s gone, we can never get it back!”
👉 What is wrong with this idea? Use the water cycle to explain.
Akuuu puts a small amount of water in an open jar and covers it with plastic wrap. She leaves it in the sun for a day.
👉 What will she see on the plastic wrap? What will happen to the water level in the jar? Explain both.
🧠 Part A — Transfer
Akuuu visits a mountain where it is very cold. She notices that wet clothes freeze solid overnight, but by afternoon they are dry — even though the temperature never goes above freezing.
👉 How can frozen ice turn directly into water vapor without becoming liquid first? Explain what is happening.
Think: You know liquid → gas. Can solid skip liquid and go straight to gas? What would that look like?
